Because of this touching symbolism, the flower is often called “Mary’s Tears.” Lily of the valley is also associated with hope and is considered by many as a symbol of Christ’s second coming.

Like many herbs and flowers mentioned in ancient traditions, lily of the valley has also been valued for its historical medicinal uses. It was believed to help strengthen memory, restore speech, and when used as a fragrant preparation applied to the forehead and back of the neck, to promote clarity of mind and good judgment.
