Some believe the baptism occurred in the Galilee region where Yardenit stands today; others identify Al-Maghtas on the Jordanian side of the river as the historic site, while some traditions point to Qasr el Yahud near Jericho. Despite these differences, all traditions agree that this sacred event took place in the Jordan River.
