It was used to proclaim holy festivals (Psalms 81:4), announce the New Year (Leviticus 23:24), accompany the Ark of the Covenant (II Samuel 6:15, I Chronicles 15:28), signal war (Joshua 6:4, Judges 3:27), and praise God with music (Psalms 98:6, 47:5).
