The Shofar is a sacred instrument made from animal horn that has been used since biblical times. The shofar appears many times in the Hebrew Bible. Its powerful blast was heard on Mount Sinai, causing the Israelites to tremble with awe (Exodus 19-20). The shofar announced festivals (Psalms 81:4), proclaimed the New Year (Leviticus 23:24), accompanied the Ark of the Covenant (II Samuel 6:15, I Chronicles 15:28), signaled war (Joshua 6:4, Judges 3:27), and celebrated praise through music (Psalms 98:6, 47:5).
